Explaining My Job

Ever since I've started working in social media, I've had a hard time explaining to a lot of people what I do, especially old people. Even when I get sick and tired of posting and feel like I'm writing ad slogans for the brands/establishments I handle, there's not much I can do since I make a living off social media.  And moving on to blogging, I'm sure all my fellow bloggers will agree that explaining how it works is not an easy thing. I been asked questions like did you start blogging to get free clothes or if I mention I have a shoot, people ask me if I started modelling. Well yeah, I wish, but that's not happening with my height and love for food. I found this funny thing on CollegeHumor the other day and decided to share it with you.

I'm sure this is an easy way out to explain your job if you are a blogger or a social media manager -

With 2013 pretty much over, I wish you all a very happy new year ( as a social media manager, this is the eighth time I've typed happy new year today, but thankfully the first time as myself )

See you on the flip side ;) Lets have a crazy 2014!!

My Envy Box

My Envy Box brings the concept of Glossybox to India and they've definitely done it well.  I had heard of other box concepts in India, which send you random makeup samples, but I'm very particular about my makeup so they did not interest me as I'd never use a random brand or a color I don't like. Thankfully, My Envy Box sends you samples of luxury beauty products, something no one can say no to.

Each month they send you 5 samples in the box, priced at Rs 850, making it very reasonable and affordable. The best part is that the full sized products are also available on the site for sale, so its perfect that you get to sample it first.  One can also Earn Envy Points with each purchase and claim them to get great deals on products available. So this is a great concept in India to discover and buy premium beauty products.

My box arrived promptly after they took down my address and this is what I got. The December box came with two surprises - a copy of the month's Elle Magazine India and a cute tiny tub of Bonne Maman Strawberry Preserve. The 6 other products were -

Each product also had a card with a little info about it and usage instructions and the price of the full sized product, a very thoughtful and informative touch added by the My Envy Box team. I loved the products and think this is a wonderful concept and am definitely subscribing to My Envy Box. Check out their website here

Have you tried any of these beauty/makeup box concepts? Let me know in your comments below!

The Honey Diet

With Christmas and New Years around the corner, I'm sure a lot of you want to look perfect and lose those few extra inches. Now, I find it impossible to follow a diet but I read about one which claims to make you lose 3 pounds in a week and decided to share it with my readers. As you may know, honey is really good for health and from personal experience I can say that it probably helps me control my weight and definitely keeps my skin soft and nice thanks to the occasional dollop of honey I add in my lime water on certain mornings.

According to this diet, you need to start and end each day with one or two teaspoons of honey in hot water with a squeeze of lemon. The natural sugars in honey trigger metabolic changes in your body so that you don't crave sugar thus keeping you away from pigging out on cakes, biscuits and other sugary goodies which we women often seek comfort in.

So for those of you with great determination and willpower who want to lose weight fast for the festivities, here goes the honey diet -

And there you go. I once followed an alcohol and ice cream diet (self invented) when I was 19 and it definitely worked! You guessed it right, I ate less food, drank a lot and ate ice cream at regular intervals. Worked for me but heck, everything works when you're 19!! Please let me know in your comments below if you've tried any diets and if they've helped.

DISCLAIMER - Hunting for images for this post made me hungry. Very hungry. Am off to the kitchen. Lentil soup maybe?

Haul + Circle Lenses

Now I have really bad eyesight (thanks to numerous hours in front of the computer playing video games) and have been wearing glasses for about 13 years now. But I only wear my glasses at home or to work and wouldn't be caught dead without my contact lenses, especially because I feel glasses don't go with half  the clothes in my wardrobe. When it comes to lenses, I've occasionally dabbled in colored lenses ( I love a nice shade of brown as it looks natural and lights up your face) and have always been fascinated by circle lenses, the ones which make your pupils look larger, giving you a doll like appearance. Circle lenses aren't available in India so I got a pair from an online store called Kpop2

The lenses were really comfortable and I loved the enlargement effect. So here's a shot of me wearing the lenses. The only problem is that my eyes are so small that when I smile, you can hardly see the size of my pupils!

Here are some close up shots that give you a better look of the pupils. Note the pretty pattern around my eyes thanks to the lenses. The pair I got is http://www.kpop2.com/lensme-contact-lenses-pumpkin-brown-13.9mm.html

Besides that, I also went on a little shopping spree to pamper myself and got 2 perfumes and a lipstick! I'm a huge perfume freak and even have a profile on Fragrantica (a site for perfume lovers who review and rate them) and I love floral fruity blends. Nina Ricci has a wonderful line of perfumes and I got two from their collection. Besides the fragrance of a perfume, the bottle is also an important factor for me when I buy a perfume, and contradictory to as much as I don't think of myself as overly girly, I have a thing for pink bottles (and underwear, lol)! So its no surprise that both the perfumes I bought are in pink bottles along with the pink lipstick :)

The first one is Nina, in the apple shaped bottle, which is an elegant floral-fruity fragrance with the scent of candied fruits. It smells divine and is a fragrance I can never get sick of. It's the kind of fragrance which gives me that special occasion feeling and I really love it!

The second one I got is Mademoiselle Ricci, a Floral Woody fragrance with the cute bow shaped lid. It has a delicate powdery fragrance so it's very gentle and I just took a whiff of it to be able to describe it properly before I finished typing this sentence :)

And last is my YSL Rouge Volupte lipstick, something I was coveting for a while and had even pinned on my Pinterest wishlist! The shiny gold tube, the classy YSL logo encrusted in gold circles and the colored bar behind it which indicates the color of the liptstick - What's not to love? Besides the amazing packaging, the lipstick is a beautiful shade of pink and a little bit goes a long way! I totally love it and can't wait to get a few more!

Would You Wear Green Lipstick?

Dolce & Gabbana's holiday 2013 makeup collection from the Italian brand Dolce & Gabbana is inspired from the bright colors of precious stones of Sicily. Aptly titled “Sicilian Jewels”, the collection comprises of four lipsticks and coordinating nail colors. The fun part? They come in some really interesting and daring colors. There’s Emerald (to which the name of this post is dedicated), Topazio (a shimmery golden yellow), Ametista (a rich shiny purple) and Rubino (a deep red, the most normal color of the lot).

'I love jewels; they are a symbol of power and passion,' said Stefano Gabbana. 'I love how they reflect the light: that’s why they have always been part of our collections since the very beginning. We adorn with gems our accessories, our corsetry, everything, like in our latest winter collection, which is the ultimate expression of what jewelry means for us.'

As Dolce’s makeup creative advisor Pat McGrath explains, the colors “can be worn in a young, ironic interpretation or with a more grown-up, sophisticated vibe. Just like a piece of jewelry.” That's not all, they also have coordinated nail polishes in this collection. “Matching your lipstick to your nail lacquer is a hot makeup trend. We chose four new shades that showcase the theatrical and playful side of looking good: they are so shiny and special that they'll be a perfect complement to any holiday or New Year outfit." says Pat.

As you would expect from a label like Dolce & Gabbana, the colors are rich and luxe just like the gems that they represent. Each of the lipsticks comes in a gold tube with a gem that matches the color of the lipstick and are priced at $35 each. I got a YSL lipstick earlier this year ( in my next post ) and would love to get the Emerald one from this collection. Unfortunately for me, it is only available in Saks Fifth Avenue in the US and Harrods in the UK.

So, how do you wear Green lipstick?

1. Mix Green Lipstick With Red
"For me, I would basically put it on the center of a red mouth to make it more brown," says McGrath. "Mix it with a red, and then you do the whole ombre thing so it makes the mouth a little darker." It's really sophisticated, she adds.

2. Wear Green Lipstick on Your Eyes
Yes, these luxury lipsticks can double up as gorgeous cream eye shadows with a gem-like gleam and you can even use the yellow topaz shade as a highlighter. Everyone's a winner!

As you can see a dark shade on model Amber Rose and a lighter one on the model to the right, it really looks good if you can carry if off. Its kinda punk rocker and definitely very bold and fashion-forward. When it comes to celebrities, I can totally imagine Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Nicky Minaj and heck, even Miley Cyrus wearing green lipstick ( Rihanna's already worn it in the past )

Of course, I'd love to wear it and am sure a lot of bloggers would try this beauty look too. So answer my question - Would you wear green lipstick?
